On behalf of the US Army Corps of Engineers, CROFT developed Afghanistan’s two nationwide fire station prototypes to be site-adapted at over 600 sites throughout the country. Employing locally available building materials and a design-build method of delivery, the fire stations were designed to meet rigorous anti-terrorism standards and house up to 40 fire fighters. The prototype designs included vehicle bays, hose and equipment storage, cleaning rooms, turn out gear locker room, and maintenance facilities. Living quarters included bunk sleeping rooms, exercise room, day room, restrooms, shower facilities, kitchen, dining facilities, offices, workstations, file storage, and private prayer rooms for the religious needs of the firemen.
