This new Visitors Center replaces a visitor center which was damaged irreparably by fire. It features extraordinarily warm, durable natural materials designed to create memorable, foothills-themed breakout spaces, retail gift shop, camping check-in, conference rooms, outdoor classrooms and administrative office spaces. The facility is designed with influences of the Appalachian foothills, including stacked stone, heavy timbers, a high sloping, central gabled roof, flanked by low sloping shed roofs. The buildings is sited into the natural topography with contemporary glazing, daylighting, and sustainable, easy to maintain building systems. CROFT provided full architectural and engineering design services to support the ground-up construction of a new Visitors Center.
