University of North Georgia acquired a 2.4 acre property adjacent to their Dahlonega campus, featuring an existing building of 3,700 SF formerly used as a Steak ‘n Shake restaurant. Under a design-build delivery method, CROFT worked with the Public Safety staff to program all present and future department space needs for the next 20 years. CROFT’s team of architects and engineers provided an effective design to repurpose the vacant restaurant along with a 3,000 SF addition into an updated law enforcement center. The new UNG Public Safety Headquarter Facility includes a fully hardened, 24/7 operational dispatch center, administrative offices, patrol equipment and evidence storage, an emergency dispatch center, patrol operations area, training/community room, locker room and other support areas. The mission critical aspect of the facility is the Operations Center with specialized workstations and monitors, complete with power redundancy sheltered by a hardened structure. Additionally, the existing facility transformation along with the site location provides an accessible and notable presence for campus public safety.
