The 9,070 SF, four-bay University Station 23 follows a pre-engineered prototype design modified to support the local community. The front-access apparatus bays lead to a spacious dayroom, personal bunk rooms, a gym, and associated support spaces. The exterior fits into the surrounding neighborhood and includes a tower, recalling historic fire station design, as a beacon for nearby residents. Horry County used the design of Station 23 as the model for the Wampee, Shell, Longs and Forestbrook stations.
