Cobb County School District wanted to add a secondary Data Center to serve as an off-site backup to their main Data Center in case of disaster. The property became available adjacent to the Corporate Headquarters and was purchased to be the site of the Secondary Data Center. The 1,000 SF hardened Data Center is efficient cold aisle containment served by CRAC Units with clean agent fire protection and N+1 power supply and backup. The remainder of the 15,000 SF facility is home to the Technology Director’s staff offices and warehousing for technology for the entire system. Secure depot stores configured technology that is processed by staff from the build room prior to distribution to professional staff and students. The site is secured with security fencing and access-controlled vehicular gates and includes dual height receiving (loading dock) for both semi-trailer and on-grade delivery of unconfigured technology. The implementation of this Data Center was integral to the capability of the system to operate with over 115,000 students online simultaneously during the 2020 COVID-19 crisis.
